From Nose to Bottle: How a KMK PARIS Room Spray Is Made

Créateur KMK PARIS évaluant une fragrance sur mouillette dans son atelier

A KMK PARIS room spray does not begin with a list of notes. It begins with a feeling to translate: a place, a light, a material or a memory precise enough to become an atmosphere.

1. Starting with an image rather than a formula

The Carnets de Voyage 2026 season is the clearest example. LIANE LIBRE is born from a dense, woody landscape. RIVAGE CUIVRÉ begins with the contrast between Agadir and Taghazout. PALME D’HIVER transforms the passage from the New York cold to the light of Palm Beach.

Before speaking of top, heart or base notes, the first step is therefore to define how the room should feel when the fragrance is diffused.

2. Building an olfactory architecture

Once the intention has been found, the composition takes shape. The top notes provide the first impulse. The heart establishes its character. The base gives the fragrance lasting presence and memory.

For RIVAGE CUIVRÉ, rum, oud and spices set the movement in motion; leather, patchouli and cedar create texture; amber, vanilla wood and musk slow the composition down. PALME D’HIVER follows another path: passion fruit, rose and orange, then monoi, orange blossom and coconut, before white musk, ylang-ylang and vanilla.

3. Working with fragrance materials from Grasse

The Maison’s fragrances are developed using fragrance materials from Grasse. The work then consists of adjusting the balance, diffusion and feeling left in the room to obtain a signature that remains true to the original story.

4. Thinking of fragrance as an object for the home

A home fragrance is not only smelled: it is seen, held, placed in a room and integrated into its décor. The bottle, label and gesture of spraying are therefore part of the experience.

At KMK PARIS, creative direction and composition are led from Paris. The labels are produced in Paris and the glass comes from Normandy. The aim remains the same at every stage: to preserve a restrained, recognisable and sufficiently timeless line, allowing the fragrance to tell the rest of the story.

5. Testing the fragrance in a real room

A room spray must be evaluated under the conditions in which it will actually be used. A composition may smell beautiful up close yet prove too subtle, too present or too fleeting in the air. The right balance is one that gives the room presence without overwhelming it.

Two to three sprays towards the centre of the room are generally enough to begin; the intensity can then be adjusted to suit the size of the space.

A French creation, a deeply personal story

The making of the fragrance never erases its starting point: an emotion. This connection between a real place, olfactory material and everyday use is what shapes KMK PARIS.
