A room spray adds fragrance when you activate it; a reed diffuser gradually releases fragrance from its solution through the reeds. Choose the former for occasional, intentional use, the latter if you want a more continuous presence and have a suitable place for it.

How does each format work?
The spray: a release with each action
The pump disperses the product into the air when pressed. You decide the moment and number of sprays within the instructions’ limits. There is no additional release until you use the bottle again.
Note the distinction: stopping spraying does not immediately remove fragrance already released. The control concerns adding product, not a button that makes the scent disappear instantly.
The reeds: passive diffusion
The reeds absorb the liquid and allow it to diffuse gradually into the air. A conventional reed diffuser does not require a flame or an electrical connection to work. Its fragrance presence depends on the product and its conditions of use.
Recommendations on the number of reeds, their handling or their replacement vary between manufacturers. Do not automatically turn reeds over because another brand recommends it: consult the instructions for your model.
The right choice for your routine
- You like to add fragrance only before a visit: a spray matches that occasional need.
- You want periods without added fragrance: a spray lets you leave the application unrepeated.
- You prefer a regular presence without spraying: consider a reed diffuser, allowing for its permanent position.
- You share your space: choose with the other occupants. Continuous diffusion may not suit their preferences.
- You like changing your fragrance world often: a spray suits separate uses, provided you do not layer fragrances in the same room.
Placement and maintenance: different considerations
A spray is put away after use. Check that it remains out of reach of children and animals, then use it only in the air, away from surfaces and heat sources. A decorative bottle does not need to remain somewhere accessible.
A reed diffuser must remain stable with its liquid and reeds. Avoid a narrow ledge or a passage where it could be knocked over. Follow surface precautions: do not assume the liquid is compatible with varnished wood, stone or painted furniture.
In both cases, keep the packaging and label needed for use. Do not decant the formulas, add water or alcohol, or mix leftover products. A refill is used only in the device for which it is intended.
Which is more economical?
Comparing only price per millilitre is not enough: an occasionally used spray and a diffuser left in place do not consume at the same rate. Start with your needs rather than a shared theoretical duration.
For a spray, note the price, volume and how often you expect to use it. For a diffuser, include the cost of refills or reeds if the manufacturer provides for their replacement. Do not divide the price by a number of days or uses that the product page does not document.
A diffuser advertised for a certain duration does not promise identical intensity throughout that period in every room. Likewise, a spray’s volume alone does not establish its exact number of pump presses.
Do you need both in a home?
There is no requirement to have both. Begin with one format in one zone, then assess whether anything is genuinely missing. In an open space, a diffuser in the entrance and a spray in the living room can end up in the same volume of air.
If you want to change format, first let the previous atmosphere dissipate and follow the product’s storage instructions. Never pour a KMK PARIS room spray into a reed bottle to try it.
The deciding question before buying
Would you rather choose each scented moment, or leave a device to diffuse gradually? This answer is generally more useful than a promise of the “best diffuser”. Neither format replaces cleaning or fresh air.
